LONDON — A van ploughed into individuals close to a north London mosque on Monday early morning, killing one man and injuring eight others.
The early-morning incident carried out towards worshippers who had not too long ago left prayers on the close by Finsbury Park mosque.
Members of the general public managed to detain a person, believed to be the driving force of the van which ran over the worshippers.
The British PM Theresa Might mentioned in an announcement that police had been treating the incident “as a possible terrorist assault”.
“I’ll chair an emergency assembly later this morning. All my ideas are with the victims, their households and the emergency providers on the scene,” she mentioned.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, described the incident as “a horrific terrorist assault on harmless individuals in Finsbury Park.”
He added “Whereas this seems to be an assault on a specific group, just like the horrible assaults in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge it is usually an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect.”
